Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 September 2026
This policy explains what the BabyNamer mobile application collects, why it collects it, who it is shared with, and how you can get it deleted. It is written to describe how the app actually behaves rather than to reserve rights we do not use.
In short: BabyNamer shows no advertising, contains no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and never asks for your GPS location. You can use the whole app without creating an account, and you can delete your account and its data from inside the app at any time.
1. Who we are
BabyNamer is published by Vela Solution Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom, which acts as the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at support@babinamer.com.
2. Using the app without an account
You can browse names, set preferences and save favourites as a guest. In that case an anonymous session key is created for your device so the app can remember your settings. No name, email address or phone number is requested, and nothing links that session to your identity.
3. What we collect
Account details
If you create an account we store your email address and a securely hashed password. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt; we never store or see the password itself. You may optionally add a display name, phone number and date of birth — these are optional and the app works without them.
Sign in with Google or Apple
If you choose one of these, we receive only what is needed to verify who you are: the permanent user identifier issued by that provider and, where you allow it, your email address. We do not receive your contacts, photos or any other account content. Apple's "Hide My Email" is supported; if you use it we only ever see the relay address.
Your preferences
Your naming preferences — gender, style, origin groups, selected countries, interface language and your surname — are stored on your device first, and sent to our server only to produce results for you.
Your surname
Your surname is used for one purpose: calculating how well a first name sounds with it (the "harmony" score). The suggestion set produced by that analysis is deleted automatically after 7 days.
Favourites
Names you mark as favourites are stored against your account so they are available on your other devices. As a guest they stay on your device.
Country and language
To show names that make sense where you are, the app reads the country and language setting of your device — the same value your phone uses to format dates and currency. This is a coarse country-level signal only. The app does not request or use GPS, and has no location permission. Once you choose countries yourself in Preferences, your choice replaces the device setting.
Push notifications
If you allow notifications, we store a push token for your device together with its platform, app version and language so we can deliver the message. Device records are removed automatically after 180 days of inactivity, and immediately when you sign out or turn notifications off.
Technical data
Our servers keep standard request logs (IP address, timestamp, requested endpoint) for security and troubleshooting. These are not used to build a profile of you and are not shared for advertising.
4. What we do not collect
- No GPS or precise location.
- No advertising identifiers, ad networks or ad profiles.
- No third-party analytics, attribution or tracking SDKs.
- No access to your contacts, photos, microphone or camera.
- No health, biometric or payment data — the app takes no payments.
5. How your data is used
- To show name lists that match the origins and countries you selected.
- To calculate harmony scores between a first name and your surname.
- To keep your favourites and preferences available on your devices.
- To deliver notifications you have asked for.
- To keep the service secure and to diagnose faults.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising or marketing.
6. Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run the service. They process data only on our instructions:
- DigitalOcean — hosting for our application and database.
- Expo — delivery of push notifications.
- Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging — the platform channels notifications travel through on iOS and Android.
- Google and Apple — only if you choose to sign in with them, for identity verification.
7. Where data is stored
Our servers are located in the European Union. Where a provider processes data outside the UK or EEA, that transfer is covered by the safeguards those providers offer, such as standard contractual clauses.
8. How long we keep it
- Account data — until you delete your account.
- Favourites and preferences — until you remove them or delete your account.
- Suggestion sets from surname analysis — 7 days.
- Push device records — 180 days of inactivity.
- Server logs — a short rolling window for security purposes.
9. Your rights and how to use them
Depending on where you live you have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Two of these are built directly into the app:
- Export — Profile → Privacy Settings → export your data as a file.
- Delete — Profile → Privacy Settings → delete your account. This removes your favourites and anonymises your identity details. It cannot be undone.
For anything else, write to support@babinamer.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are in the UK you may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO); in the EEA, to your local supervisory authority.
10. Children
BabyNamer is intended for adults who are choosing a name, not for children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Passwords are stored only as bcrypt hashes. Access to production systems is restricted to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we will notify affected users and the relevant authority if a breach puts your rights at risk.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced in the app.
13. Contact
Questions about this policy, or about your data: support@babinamer.com, or use the contact form.
